Core Fire Media (CFM) is an interactive development company, based in Toronto, Canada.

CFM does simulation and entertainment game development.

CFM has unique expertise in simulation design, particularly for medical resource management for mass casualty incidents (having worked on major projects in the US, funded by DHS and the Pentagon).

CFM also has expertise in: core design for simulations and games; audio design and implementation; business management for games.

Our company uses the core team / outsourcing model -- a process we are helping to pioneer in the game industry. This means CFM focuses on iterative practices in project packaging, core design and technology development for early prototyping and pipeline establishment. Then, once key uncertainties have been resolved here, we outsource large-scale production work in an efficient scheduled production manner. This practice (recent to games, but common in other industries, such as film, architecture, automotive, etc) allows us to:

  • Minimize burn between projects: since we do not maintain large rosters of production staff, our overhead is low -- and no resources are dedicated to maintaining idle personnel;
  • Work at our client's pace, doing multiple effective prototyping cycles to get key elements right and develop good technology and look-and-feel;
  • Customize our visual art style greatly from project to project based on the game's specific look-and-feel needs, tapping into the vast wealth of art talent from nearby game development companies in the thriving Toronto / Southern Ontario game and animation industries.

CFM's business practices are resourceful, diligent and meticulous. We know how to make use of generous tax credits and R&D grants provided to game developers in our region. CFM ensures all project structures are solid, and that contracts and IP vesting agreements with outsourcers are airtight. In some cases, we can use film-style presale techniques to even help finance new projects.
